History of NOTRE DAME ACADEMY
Notre Dame Academy traces its origin to its spiritual mother, St. Julie Billiart of France, who founded the congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1804. Her charismatic spirit of finding God`s goodness in everything was handed over to the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame in Coesfeld, Germany, in 1850.
The history of Notre Dame Academy begins with the arrival of six pioneers in Jamalpur on October 31st, 1949. They came from Clevand, Ohio, USA. The names of the pioneers are: Sisters Mary St. Thomas, Magdela, Maris, Joelle, Lauretta, and Kieran. The pioneers began Notre Dame Academy on February 2nd , 1950 with 16 tiny tots in a temporary building in the premises.
A Brief History of Notre Dame Alumni Association
Some of you may remember that both in the 80s and 90s , the Principals of Notre Dame Academy, Jamalpur had several Alumni gatherings and activities organized! But a serious plan to form into an Association came from the request made by the Alumni Gathering at Southgate, Delhi on Sept.9th 2012!
Quite a few enthusiastic Notre Dame Alumni had come together to welcome Sister Lalita who was visiting India from Tanzania to celebrate her Golden Jubilee as a Sister of Notre Dame! The gathering was organized by Kanchan Singh of `85 Batch under the banner of his NGO, "The Munger Magnet"! We remember people like Mangesh Kashyap, DCP, Midhat Hussain, Prashant, Prity and Neeti Singh, Alok Sinha, Prity Bhagat, Briti Sinha, Monica Sethi, Rajesh Sethi with Veena &Shakuntala Sethi, who were teachers at Munger NDA, Sharat Ray Prasad Priyadarshini, Angana Bhattacharya and almost 50 others! The group expressed a keen desire to work together as NDA Alumni for for some meaningful purpose! It was the earnest request of this group that we form into an Association and have an ND Alumni Website!
